This victory goes back to 1966 with a hat-trick from striker Geoff Hurst in the final against Germany. The England team of the day included the two legendary players Bobby Charlton and central defender Bobby Moore.

At the 1982 World Cup in Spain, England, a team that included the likes of strikers Kevin Keegan, Trevor Francis, and centre-forwards Gary Lineker and Paul Mariner, won all their first-round matches against France, 3-1 with Mariner's goals and Robson's double, in Czechoslovakia and Kuwait.

In the second round, which is played in the group stage, England's football team finds itself in the group of the host nation, Spain and the ever-feared West Germany. The English players will battle it out at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium with these two teams drawing 0-0. However, these results will not be enough to continue their progress in the competition, as only the top teams in each group advance directly to the semi-finals: West Germany, France, Italy and Poland. Paolo Rossi's Italy will win the Cup in the final against Rummenigge's Germany, 3-1.
