France qualified for the 2004 European Championship held in Portugal, where they immediately fell into the group of death with England, Croatia and Switzerland. However, the French team was probably the strongest of the tournament. Arriving in the quarterfinals against Greece, most of the French were happy because the Greek team was not really favorite in the tournament. But the unthinkable happened. The French stars couldn't get past the Greek defense, and the game ended 1-0 for the underdogs, eliminating France from the tournament.
